schaumarSolymár is a village north-west from Budapest and every year they have a spring festival. It started on April 30th,  where they have a celebration and at the end of the day they put up the maypole. On 1st of May they have the festival in the wood near the castle.

Amara and I went with a friend of mine and her family.  When we arrived there we heard german volks songs played there. I was told that many people of german descendant live in Solymár (Schaumar).

A lot of dancing and singing (some in german) from various groups which started with the kindergarten….then elementary school and so on…it was really interesting to watch and enjoy :)

Of course the highlight of the day was the putting up of the maypole. After they finished that, the adults groups came and dance…..and then the grandma and grandpa group. So basically all age group got to performance a song (or songs) and a dance (or dances) :)

In between of course there were food… bread and sausages ;)   Unfortunately the weather was not really good that day…. in the evening it became colder and we didn’t have our coats, so the next day Amara caught a bit fever and cough so we couldn’t come to the 1st of May festival :( But we have been told that the festival was really nice with many food, games and celebration…. maybe next year we’ll come :)
